Did you know that each year, millions of people leave money on the table when it comes to their owed insurance benefits? According to the National Association of Dental Plans, only 2.8% of people with PPO dental plans reach or exceeded their plans annual maximum. We would hate to see our dental patients (or anyone) let their dental benefits go to waste.
When You Need to Use Them
A number of insurance companies have a deadline of December 31st for you to receive your covered dental benefits. Your benefits generally do not roll over into the new year. However, some other plans may use a different “start” and “end” date mid-year. It is important to check your documents or call your insurance provider to be sure.
Use Your Benefits
Most insurance companies cover (with no co-pay) all preventative services – so make sure you come in and take advantage of your semi-annual cleanings!
Your deductible (the amount you have been required to pay out of pocket to cover other services – not qualified as preventative) typically re-sets at the beginning of the year. So, if you have already paid all (or most of) your deductible, it is a good idea to get in and cover any other needed treatments, especially if said treatments are costly. Your insurance will likely pay the bill so long as the service is received before the end of the year or re-set date laid out in their terms.
Dental Treatments Are Important
No matter your situation, don’t delay dental treatments because of money. Dental issues and ailments tend to worsen (and cost a lot more to handle) the longer you let them go. What could have been handled painlessly and fast can turn into a very serious situation – and fast! If you are worried about what your insurance will cover, please do not hesitate to call or contact our Office Manager and Staff to help you figure it out.
